ANNAM BUTT

Annam Butt is a British-Pakistani fine artist based in London, specialising in classical oil painting and charcoal drawing. Her work bridges Eastern and Western artistic traditions, drawing inspiration from historical narratives, objects of antiquity, and the evocative storytelling of The Orientalists. Through a meticulous approach to composition and technique, Annam creates thought-provoking still lifes and figurative pieces that explore themes of identity, culture, and the passage of time.

Annam trained at the prestigious London Fine Art Studios, where she honed her craft under the guidance of master painters. Her dedication to classical methods and her ability to infuse traditional realism with contemporary narratives earned her the distinguished De Laszlo Scholarship in both 2018 and 2019. This recognition allowed her to further her research into historical painting techniques, deepening her connection to the rich heritage of European and Eastern art.

Working primarily in oil paint and charcoal, Annam’s practice is defined by a careful balance between precision and atmosphere. She frequently experiments with unconventional surfaces, such as aluminium and copper, to add contrast and depth to her work. Her paintings often feature macabre and symbolic objects—antique artefacts, decayed flowers, or remnants of forgotten histories—that invite viewers to unravel their layered meanings.
